Online Sighthound Skills Course
How Insight Makes the Difference
Our 6 week, sighthound-specific online course designed to help you feel more confident, more informed, and more supported in how you live with your dog.
If you’ve ever felt unsure whether you’re doing the right thing for your sighthound, overwhelmed by mixed advice, or frustrated that generic dog training doesn’t quite fit, you’re not alone.
If you are like some of the people that I work with living with a sighthound, trying your best, putting in the effort, and you still feeling like something isn’t clicking. Lots of people tell me they are worried they are doing it wrong. This isn’t because they are, but because sighthounds are different and they need skills that make sense for their bodies, brains, and real lives.
The Sighthound Skills course is designed to support and work with those needs.
If any of these sound familiar…
You’ve just welcomed your first sighthound and want to get it right or your sighthound has been living with you a while and things are still feeling tricky.
You’ve found yourself thinking “this sighthound feels different to my others, and I’m not quite sure what to do”
You sometimes feel unsure whether you’re doing the right thing
You’re experiencing training challenges that feel inconsistent or unclear
You want to feel more confident, more knowledgeable, and more secure in the choices you make
OR
Generic training advice hasn’t quite fitted your sighthound.
You want practical skills but also want to understand the why behind them
Your dog seems to understand sometimes, but things don’t always translate to everyday life
You enjoy learning and want a way to spend quality time with your sighthound.
You are not alone
What this course is really about
Sighthound Skills is about giving you the skills, understanding, and confidence to support your dog properly as an individual.
It’s designed to help training make sense, not just in a session, but in everyday life. The focus is on understanding what’s going on for your sighthound and knowing how to adapt what you’re doing so it fits the dog in front of you together we will make a plan that works for you both.
By the end of the course, the aim is that you feel clearer about what you’re doing and why. You’ll learn how to better connect with your dog, why certain approaches may not have worked before, and how to adjust things so training starts to feel more achievable and more relevant to real life.
This course is about building a toolkit of skills and knowledge you can keep coming back to, so you feel informed, confident, and supported as you live and learn alongside your sighthound.
What we’ll cover together
Sighthound Skills combines practical, real-life training skills with the understanding you need to use them well.
Core areas we cover include:
• Settle training to help your dog to relax and switch off.
• Building confidence around novelty objects and new situations, so life feels less overwhelming for you and your sighthound.
• Connection and engagement skills, including focus and check-ins, so your dog learns to tune in to you even when the world is interesting.
• Recall foundations tailored to sighthounds and real life safety.
• An “off” cue to help your sighthound get up and ready to go.
• Dog detective games so you can uncover what truly motivates your dog.
• Developing good timing and effective reward placement, so your dog clearly understands what is being asked and learning becomes more consistent.
• Understanding sighthound body language and subtle signals, so you can respond earlier and support your dog.
• Exploring breed traits and how to work with them rather than against them, so you feel less frustrated and more informed.
• How emotions affect behaviour and learning so you can support your dog.
• Setting training up for success through environment, pace and realistic expectations, so progress feels steady and achievable rather than overwhelming.
I designed the course after experiencing many of these challenges myself with my own sighthounds, and realising how valuable it is to have guidance that fits the dog in front of you. - Clare

“Insight Hounds isn’t just about training—it’s about strengthening your bond and enjoying time with your sighthound in a friendly, supportive space.”
How it works in practice
Each week combines explanation, demonstration, and practical application.
You’ll see clear demonstrations of the skills we’re working on, then have the option to practise them at home in ways that suit you and your dog.
Where helpful, you can share short videos for feedback, allowing you to refine your skills, tweak your setup, and build confidence in your handling and timing.
Alongside the practical work, we spend time looking at how to set both you and your dog up for success. That includes the environment, the pace of training, and recognising when to adjust or when to progress.
Support is ongoing throughout the course, and the focus is always on making training feel achievable, relevant, and supportive in real-life situations, not just during the session itself.

No.
Even in my in person classes, I’m not the one training your dog. I’m coaching you. That’s because long term progress comes from you understanding what to look for, how to adjust and how to read your own dog.
Online works in the same way.
You practise with your dog in your normal environment and send in videos, so I can see what’s happening in real life, not just in a training hall. Dogs can behave very differently in new spaces, so working in your everyday setting gives us a really accurate picture.
From there, I guide you on timing, reward placement, setup and pacing, so you can build skills confidently and consistently.
-
All sessions are recorded and uploaded to the online hub, so you can watch back in your own time.
-
Telegram is a messaging app that works in a very similar way to WhatsApp.
We use it as a private group space for the course, where you can ask questions, share updates, and, if you wish, upload short videos for feedback.
One key difference is that you don’t have access to anyone else’s phone number, and they don’t have access to yours. It’s simply a shared group space linked to the course.
-
The training hub is an online space where all course materials are stored.
This includes:
Recordings of the live sessions
Practical demonstration videos for the skills we cover
It means you can watch sessions back if you miss one, watch practical demonstration
-
All live sessions are delivered via Zoom.
You can join using the Zoom app or directly through your desktop browser. You don’t need to be particularly tech-savvy to take part.
If you do have any questions or concerns about accessing Zoom, you’re very welcome to get in touch and I’ll help you.
You can contact me at clare@insighthounds.co.uk.

This course is suitable for sighthounds of all ages, from young dogs to seniors.
Dogs are never too old to learn, and everything is adapted to suit the individual dog..
-
Yes. The course is built around sighthound specific traits, learning styles and emotional needs. It’s not generic dog training adapted afterwards. It’s designed for them from the start.
-
No.
Sharing videos is completely optional.
It can be a really helpful way to get feedback on how the skills are working for your individual dog, but if it’s not something you feel comfortable with, there’s no obligation to share at all.
You can still take part fully in the course without posting any videos.
-
Do I need this course or a behaviourist?
This course focuses on building strong foundations, understanding your sighthound’s behaviour and shaping practical, everyday skills.
If your dog is experiencing more complex behavioural concerns, such as significant fear, aggression or anxiety that feels beyond foundation work, a clinical behaviourist may be the right first step. I can always signpost appropriately if that’s the case.
If you’re unsure, get in touch. We can have a quick chat and work out what level of support is right for you and your dog
-
If there’s anything you’re unsure about, or if something hasn’t been answered here, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
You can email me at clare@insighthounds.co.uk, and I’ll be happy to help you decide whether the course is the right fit for you and your dog.
Frequently Asked Questions
Hi - I’m Clare
Here at Insight Hounds, we work with all sighthounds, specialising in ex-racing greyhounds. Many of the dogs I work with are adopted, each with their own history, personality, and needs. Whether your sighthound is newly adopted or has been part of your family for years, I’m here to help you build confidence, communication, and connection together.
I started Insight Hounds because I know firsthand how incredible, sensitive, and unique these dogs are. Sighthounds don’t fit into a one-size-fits-all approach to training, they think differently, learn differently, and need training that truly understands them.
My goal is to help families understand, communicate, and connect with their sighthounds using kind, science-based training that builds confidence for both dogs and humans. Whether it’s helping an ex-racer settle into home life, working on recall, loose lead walking, or confidence-building, I tailor training to your dog’s needs and your lifestyle.
No sighthound is ever too old to learn. Whether it’s your first or your fourteenth, every dog is unique, and we’re here to help every step of the way.
📍 Based in Shustoke, UK, with in-person and online training options.
