Insight Hounds - Frequenty Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
What is a sighthound?
Sighthounds are a family of breeds built for speed and guided by sight rather than scent. They include greyhounds, whippets, lurchers, salukis, galgos, borzois, deerhounds and more. They’re elegant, sensitive, and full of quirks. Once you’ve lived with one, you’ll never forget it.
-
Do you only train sighthounds?
Yes. My whole focus is sighthounds, with a specialism in ex-racing greyhounds. Their needs and personalities are unique, and working only with them means I can give families the most relevant, practical support.
-
What's your type of training?
I use science-based, positive reinforcement. That means rewarding the behaviours we want to see more of, setting dogs up for success, and building trust. There’s no punishment or force. It’s about growing confidence and communication together.
-
Do I need a trainer or a behaviourist?
It depends on what’s going on for your hound. A trainer helps with practical skills, building confidence, and adapting to home life. A behaviourist is needed if a dog is showing deeper issues such as, severe separation anxiety, or phobias.I’m always happy to have a chat and can recommend the best support.
-
Can older dogs still learn?
Absolutely. It’s never too late. Many of the hounds I work with are adults or seniors, and they still enjoy learning and growing. The key is to meet each dog where they are. We have had 11 and 12 year old dogs who have learnt so much and loved it.

What happens at the start of training?
We always begin with a discovery call. This lets us chat about your hound, your goals from here we can check what would be best for you and give you options on the next step.
