He taught me that practical skills are valuable, but understanding is where the real magic lives.I needed to understand how sighthounds learn, how they experience the world and the subtle ways they communicate. Seeing life through a sighthound lens made a huge difference to Oscar, our other dogs and us too.

As I spent more time in the sighthound world, I began to see a gap. People adored their dogs and were doing their best, but conflicting information, generic advice and outdated ideas often left them unsure about what to do.

I wanted to help fill that gap.

I went on to gain professional qualifications and continue to expand my knowledge, so I can offer training that combines insight into sighthounds with practical skills. That learning never stops.

At Insight Hounds, we begin with an understanding of sighthounds. We then look at your individual dog’s breed, background, experiences, emotions and wonderfully unique personality. We take it from there.

My training is science-led and reward-based. It is designed to help you grow your dog’s confidence, understand their communication and build skills together.

Today, I offer sighthound-specific courses, workshops, membership and 1-2-1 support, both in person and online. I also provide a free online sessions for people who have recently adopted a sighthound.

Sighthounds remain a huge part of my life at home too. We currently share our home with Izzy, our little ex-racing greyhound with a big personality, and Freddie, our adopted whippet, who is a wonderful mix of mischief and charm. Their adventures, antics and lessons often find their way into my regular newsletter along with top tips.

Whether you have recently welcomed your sighthound home or have shared many years together, you are very welcome at Insight Hounds.

Hi, I’m Clare

I’m a qualified dog trainer, coach and the person behind Insight Hounds. I work exclusively with sighthounds, specialising in ex-racing greyhounds.

We adopted our frist ex racing greyhound, Ellie, in 2009. She changed the direction of my life. I began volunteering, attending events and championing greyhounds wherever I could. We adopted more greyhounds and fostered along the way too.

I also caught the training bug. Louis gained his Bronze Good Citizen Award at Crufts, and I was proud to be part of the first greyhound Obreedience team to qualify for Crufts. Louis, Belle and Oscar all went on to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

However, Oscar, our fifth greyhound, threw me a curve ball.
